Desi Feminist Collective is a community-centered Discord space for conversations around feminism through a South Asian lens. We exist because feminism is not one-size-fits-all. Desi women and marginalized genders navigate patriarchy, caste, religion, family pressure, colorism, misogyny, diaspora identity, and silence—often all at once. This server is a place to talk about those realities honestly. WHAT WE STAND FOR • Feminism rooted in lived experience • Centering women, femmes, and marginalized voices • Intersectionality — caste, class, religion, disability, sexuality, and gender identity matter • Growth, accountability, and unlearning • Community care over performative activism WHAT WE TALK ABOUT • Desi feminism & gender politics • Patriarchy in families, culture, and society • Caste-based and religious oppression • Misogyny, honor culture, and moral policing • Mental health, body image, and autonomy • Media, culture, art, and representation • Diaspora experiences & identity conflicts WHAT THIS SPACE IS • A discussion space, not an echo chamber • A learning space, not a courtroom • A supportive space, not a debate club • A community that values respect over righteousness WHAT THIS SPACE IS NOT • Not a place for hate, harassment, or bigotry • Not a platform for bad-faith arguments • Not a space to dismiss lived experiences • Not neutral on oppression OUR GOAL To create a space where Desi feminists can: • Speak freely • Be heard • Learn from one another • Unlearn harmful norms • Build solidarity — online and beyond You don’t need to be perfect to be here. You just need to be respectful, open to learning, and willing to listen.
