Clan Goliath Scorpion is one of the original twenty Clans from the BattleTech universe, a popular sci-fi franchise with a long history of tabletop games, video games, and novels. Key Characteristics and History Founding: The Clan was founded by Nicholas Kerensky, the son of the legendary General Aleksandr Kerensky who led the Star League Defense Force into exile to escape a civil war. Clan Goliath Scorpion was named after the native Goliath Scorpions found on the world of Babylon. Culture: Unlike many of the more aggressive, "Crusader" Clans, the Goliath Scorpions are considered "Wardens," who believe in looking to the past to rebuild the Star League. They are known for a strong emphasis on precision and cunning over brute force. A unique aspect of their culture is the use of a hallucinogenic drug called necrosia, derived from the venom of their totem animal, to aid in "visions" and "quests." Exile and Transformation: After the Wars of Reaving, a period of intense conflict among the Clans, Clan Goliath Scorpion was expelled from Clan space. They migrated to the Deep Periphery and conquered the nation of Nueva Castile, renaming it the Escorpión Imperio (Scorpion Empire). This event marked a major shift in their history, as they began to integrate a much larger non-Clan population into their society while still holding onto their core Clan customs. In recent eras, the Goliath Scorpions, as the Scorpion Empire, are a powerful nation in the Periphery, controlling a significant number of worlds and a growing industrial base. They are a faction with a rich and unique history, full of contradictions—a mix of ancient Clan traditions, a quasi-religious reverence for the past, and a pragmatic, expansionist future.
